19th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union

The 19th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union was held from 5 to 14 October 1952. It was the last of the regime of Joseph Stalin and the first to take place since before World War II. It was attended by many foreign dignitaries, including Mao Zedong.

Politburo membership after the Congress

The Politburo was greatly expanded in preparations for the purges scheduled the next year. Andrianov, Aristov, Beria, Bulganin, Voroshilov, Ignatyev, Kaganovich, Korotchenko, Kuznetsov, Otto Kuusinen, Malenkov, Malyshev, Melnikov, Mikoyan, Mikhaylov, Molotov, Pervukhin, Ponomarenko, Saburov, Joseph Stalin , Mikhail Suslov, Nikita Khrushchev, Chesnokov, Shvernik, Shkiryatov were elected full members and Leonid Brezhnev, Andrei Vyshinsky, Arseni Zverev, Ignatov, Kabanov, Kosygin, Patolichev, Pegov, Puzanov, Vladimir Konstantinov, Tevosyan, Yudin candidate members. An unofficial Bureau of the Presidium formed as follows: Beria, Bulganin, Voroshilov, Kaganovich, Malenkov, Pervukhin, Saburov, Stalin, and Khrushchev.
